✶cicaida✶
Sick-ciida more like amirite? A cicada sits on the center of the sternum, just beneath the breasts, acting as the focal point and anchor of the composition. The wings extend outward and downward, gently shaping the chest and guiding the flow of the piece across the torso.
Decorative foils and chrysanthemums accompany the cicada, their curved forms echoing the natural rhythm of the body while framing the hips and waist. Decorative foils ornamental elements cross through the lower abdomen, framing the belly button and above the knees, creating balance and symmetry while allowing the design to taper and elongate the body. Flowing leaves weave through the composition, directing the eye throughout the piece and carrying the movement naturally down toward the legs and around the back of the calves.
At its heart, this design is built around the symbolism of the cicada.Across many cultures, the cicada represents transformation, rebirth, and perseverance. Cicadas spend the majority of their lives underground, emerging only after years of quiet growth to shed their shell and take flight. Because of this, they have long been seen as symbols of renewal, personal evolution, and the courage to step into a new phase of life.
In Japanese tradition, cicadas are also associated with summer, impermanence, and the fleeting beauty of life, while in ancient Greek mythology they symbolized immortality and the soul’s transformation.
Intentionally anchored to the heart chakra the cicada becomes a powerful emblem of emergence and becoming, a reminder that transformation often happens quietly beneath the surface before revealing itself in full form.
The surrounding floral elements reinforce this theme of growth and renewal, while the overall composition is designed to complement the anatomy, slimming and elongating the body while creating a sense of movement that flows naturally from the torso down into the legs..
