✦ Tattoo FAQ | Tattoo Halcyon ✦

Take a moment to review our policies and requirements before sending an inquiry or booking your tattoo. We value your time and feedback, as such we aim to be as honest and transparent about our policies and pricing as possible. If you have any further questions or would like more clarity about a detail, please don’t hesitate to ask.

  • Tattoo Halcyon operates primarily by appointment in order to give each project the time and focus it deserves. While occasional walk-ins may be possible depending on the schedule, we strongly recommend submitting an inquiry or contacting the studio in advance to guarantee availability.

  • Appointments begin by submitting an inquiry through the contact form on this website. Please include as much information as possible about your tattoo idea, including subject matter, placement on the body, approximate size, and any reference images you may have.

  • For all projects, a $300 deposit is required to reserve your appointment. Deposits are applied toward the final cost of your tattoo.

For most Larger custom work, we also require a $300 non-refundable art fee, which covers the time and design process involved in composing your design. Many larger projects can take upwards of 10-20 hours to complete a fully rendered and well composed design.

  • Tattoo Halcyon is open Monday through Saturday from 12:00 PM to 8:00 PM.

Because the studio operates primarily by appointment, availability may vary depending on scheduled sessions.

  • Most inquiries receive a response within 24–48 hours. During periods of travel, conventions, or larger ongoing projects, response times may occasionally take a little longer.

We review each inquiry carefully to ensure we fully understand the project before responding.

  • Because tattooing is my full-time profession and I balance my schedule with family life, most drawings are completed the week of the appointment or in rare cases, the day before.

You can expect at minimum a fully prepared line drawing, and often a more developed rendering or color study depending on the scale and scope of work.

In some cases, elements of the design may be refined directly on the skin the day of the appointment to ensure the composition flows naturally with your anatomy.

I will generally book a consultation before to get a mapping and tracing of the area and collaborate with you to gather as much detail as I can about the purpose of the project.

  • During your first session we will review the design together, finalize placement, and apply the stencil. Some tattoos may also involve additional drawing directly on the skin to refine the composition.

Once everything is approved and the skin is prepared, we will begin the tattoo session.

The goal is always to ensure the design flows naturally with the body and that every detail is thoughtfully executed.

Depending on the time booked and scale of work, I aim to get whatever we have drawn and stenciled outlined and possibly some shading if time permits.

  • All Deposits are currently accepted through Venmo or Zelle.

Tattoo sessions are currently cash only, although we are working toward adding credit card processing in the future.

  • Initial tattoo healing typically takes 10–14 days, during which the tattoo may peel or flake as part of the normal healing process.

For larger projects or multi-session tattoos, we generally recommend waiting about 4 weeks between sessions to allow the skin to fully recover.

Please refer to the Aftercare section of this website for full healing instructions.

  • No. Tattoo Halcyon focuses exclusively on custom tattoo work.

  • We require at least 72 hours notice for cancellations or rescheduling.

    Deposits may be forfeited for:
    • late cancellations
    • arriving more than 30 minutes late without notice
    • no-call / no-show appointments

As long as sufficient notice is given, one reschedule is generally permitted.

Please understand that significant time is invested in preparing each tattoo design, and since we only typically schedule one client per day, our policy helps protect that work.

  • You must be 18 years of age or older to get tattooed.

A valid government issued photo ID or passport is required at your appointment.

    No exceptions.

  • Clients often send reference images from other tattooers or AI-generated artwork. These references can be helpful in communicating the aesthetic direction of a project, but all tattoos created at Tattoo Halcyon are designed in our own style and approach.

When submitting references, please describe what elements you like about each image such as composition, color palette, subject matter, or overall feeling. This helps us better understand your vision for the feel and look of the tattoo.

Minor adjustments can be made on the day of the appointment, but it is important to include all key information in your inquiry and during consultation. Significant changes may require rescheduling the appointment and another deposit may be required.

Clear communication is essential in creating a well composed tattoo that aligns with both your vision and the artist’s expertise.

  • Yes. Custom tattoos require a $300 design fee which covers our time and expertise involved in composing your tattoo. We consider every element and facet in creating our work. We take great pride in that fact. Nothing is overlooked and each design is carefully crafted for each client.

Design work is created specifically for your scheduled tattoo appointment and is not transferable or available to take elsewhere.

  • Design work is typically completed the week of your appointment or shortly before your session.

Because tattooing is a full-time profession and each design is created specifically for the client and placement on the body, drawings are prepared and prioritized in the order of scheduled appointments.

  • Tipping is never required at Tattoo Halcyon in order to receive our best work. Every tattoo is approached with the same level of care, craftsmanship, and attention to detail regardless of gratuity.

That said, tipping is a common way clients choose to show appreciation for the time, effort, and dedication that goes into creating a custom tattoo. If you feel you received an added effort beyond expectation during your experience, a gratuity is always welcomed and sincerely appreciated.

Our focus is always on delivering a comfortable experience and a tattoo that will last forever. While we do not work for tips, any additional gesture of appreciation is welcomed and received with gratitude.
